I can't believe it has been over a month since I last did any papier-mache. Between having a houseful of visitors this summer, and going away on vacation I haven't gotten anything done!
Now that I am back, I want to experiment with drying pieces out in my slow cooker. I am going to make a bunch of small boxes and attach them all together in order to make a storage container for the essential oils that I have just lying around.
I am hoping that cooking the pieces will make them strong enough so I can drill some small holes in order to be able to put hinges on so each compartment will have it's own little door and then I will attach all the compartments together once I have enough of them.
What has everyone been working on out there? I've missed you guys!

Sounds like a busy summer Welcome back to the boards.
Due to some fun changes, I'm postponing most of my projects. for nearly a year. heh I've the chance to travel around the US (SW and W that is), so plan to visit as many PM shops and galleries as I can find. Granting I survive the trip... camping around the US. I'm just not as young as I was when I did it 15 years ago.
Maybe I can take up something smaller than furniture while out there on the road.

hi
well i havent got much paper maching done either, and i dont have summer for an excuse!
paperwork of a different kind has been taking up my precious time along with the commotion, unpredictability, even turmoil that unhelpful people bring....
i have to keep remembering that all this is just the universes way of realigning itself to make my dreams a reality

Hi,
as I´m taking part in a arts-and-craft-market in november I´m very busy... Angels and santas are drying in my kitchen, some fairies, hearts, balls, and some other stuff too. Before that I have an exhibition (with several other artists) in the middle of september and only 3 weeks left for working on some pieces, because we´re leaving at the end of august for 2 weeks holidays in spain. As I have no chance to take some PM with me, I guess I´ll build large sand-sculpture not to get mad ;O).
And the weather is so horrible! Rain, rain, rain. Last weekend we had 3 hot days that I used to finish my princess. She still has no hair, but she has to wait until the sun is shining again. The elements are working against me (
Krise (yes, that´s the german word for "crisis" - guess why I´m called like this ;O))

Well I've given up on having enough stuff for an upcoming art festival this year, but will certainly have enough for next year although I do more than pm for it.
Ive almost finished my first sally cat tho.. and discovered this is a great way to make lots of different creatures for next years vbs tropical island theme. Im going to do a parrot, monkey, gecko, frogs, fish, treasure chest, etc. wish me luck. I have until next summer to get it all together. David your sally cat idea is so great because it works really fast. I stuffed it with paper and weighted the bottom by half filling a ziplock sandwich bag with rice and stuffing that inside and then putting more paper on top of it. Worked great for weight!
Most of the stuff I do will be given to another vbs with the same theme unless it turns out good enough for the show.. I still need to post my Lounge Lizard to this site tho which I recently finished.. Debra

Thanks for the nice comments, Debra. I look forward to seeing how all the 'Sally' animals work out.
For Butterbee . . . . I will be surprised (and interested to learn) if your slow cooker idea works out. Isn't the intention with those that they hold in the moisture and allow things to cook in their own juices? If it doesn't work, a low temperature on a fan assisted oven would be best.

Not really up to much pm apart from decorating a dozen masks I made last year but incredibly slowly.
One project I do have lined up, but it wasn't intentional, is to make a couple of containers to house some puppets I made. I'd been looking round to find some postertubes of a certian diameter, I thought I'd found them but it turned out just a slightly bit too small.
So I'm going to cut the tubes to length split them down the middle and make a lip around one so the two havles will fit together, layer the exterior and interior for a smooth finish and just to make it extra hard for myself I'm hoping to decorate them in a Japanese lacquerware style with some japanese knotwork tassels to tie the two halves together.

If you want to get hold of good sized poster tubes contact your local bookshop. The ones I have worked in used to get all promotional material in poster tubes and some of them are very wide, they just get thrown out for recycling at the end of the promotions so would probably be happy to let you have some.
If you are in the UK, go to your nearest Waterstones now as they have all the Back to School stuff in store and should have loads of tubes.

just a note that if you ever need really big strong tubes carpet stores always have them after the carpet or linoleum is off the roll. I have never seen them in the trash, but a few years back needed some for a project and they gave me two... Debra

Hi all.
Been having a bit of a break myself. Something came up and I couldn't do my last festival, but they very nicely refunded my money which was unexpected.Just waiting for the school hol's to finish then I will finish off a few piece's and start work on some Christmas fayre projects. ( Truth be known my poor little work room has been filled up with so much junk I can't get in.)
Sue.
