I'm sick. Because of this, my schedule is somewhat changed, so I was watching TV this morning. This is not very appealing, but then, there was something on. T'was a show abnout gardening. Then another show about gardening. Then a show about sewing. Finally, a show about craft making. Oooh. I was delighted! "Oh boy! Here we go", I thought.
Erm....
The host of the show was demonstrating how to make a lovely box. Here's the steps to making it.
1. Go to the craft store.
2. Buy a round box.
3. Buy a wreath.
4. Buy a bird made with real feathers.
5. Buy some fake moss (kinda looks like grass).
6. Buy some paint.
7. Buy a stencil.
8. Buy a hot glue gun.
9. Buy some glue for your glue gun.
10. Paint the box with a sponge, then hot glue everything in place.
WHUT? That's not crafting!
Tina! Bring me the axe!

I guess some people are just intimidated by crafting and rather buy all the pieces they need than make them. Kind of like a paint by numbers instead of actually painting.
I wish I had the money to craft like that! The whole reason I got into papier-mache in the first place is because I am broke.

That isn't crafting. That's just gluing! If she had made her own wreath and actually PAINTED the box, then it's crafting. But she implies that all that's needed is money and a glue gun. NOT!
People like her give crafting a bad name.

I totally agree Lengo. I feel much the same way about the card making that is all over the place at the moment. I am delighted that people can do a craft and get nice results, but the sense is that you have to buy endless different stick-on, puff-up, punch-out stuff and this will result in cards! You don't need all that stuff!!! I'm hoping to introduce a new evening class this winter to show people how to make stuff from basic ingredients with simple tools. Having said all that I'm hopeless for buying paper...that I really don't need...I just like it!
