Hi! i just did my first paper mache project ever (a bowl) but I ran into just one problem.
so, to make it not stick the the bowl I was using to make the shape, I put petroleum jelly (vaseline) on the bowl before i layed any paper strips on it. But now the bottom of the bowl looks dark as if it's wet (but it isn't) , and the surface is all slimy because of the vaseline which is really hard to get off. Is there another way I can make sure the paper mache doesn't stick to the bowl without using vaseline? Thanks!

Was the bowl made of plastic, glass or wood? Petroleum jelly will stain some woods, as it acts like an oil. I don't know how to fix that.
Instead of using petroleum jelly, dampen the bowl, then apply plastic food wrap (cling film) to it (the moisture will help it to stick), then apply your papier mache to the plastic. The plastic should peel off the dry papier mache quite easily, either when semi-dry (if the PM is stiff enough) or completely dry.
