Hi,
Does anyone know how to make kitchen tiles from paper mache? Watched a TV show tonight where the gal tiled her bathroom floor and counter with paper mache tiles. We are about to buy tiles for kitchen but first I want to see if I can make my own.
Thanks for any help,
arl

Erm... I may be wrong, but m'thinks papier mache is not a good choice for such a humid environment.
No matter what lengths you take to waterproof them, they are vulnerable to moisture. Ceramic tiles are much more durable, and you can make these very pretty! And probably easier too.
So what are you waiting for? Go find out how!

Not so sure about that. Where you place it might be more the problem. With yatcht varnish (from reading posts and the experiment here, plus Rene's posts from the PM list) you could get a good seal that lasts for years. It would no doubt require upkeep just like tiles do. Cleaning would make that more so, I'd think.
We have tiles on our list of projects which we intend to use as decorative, insets, borders around the house (but not in the bathroom, that's pure stone). We haven't started testing it but I think we'll make a few testers before we add them to the new house. Give it a run through with cleaning and such to see how long it lasts or when it needs retouching.

I am sure that I read somewhere that Gemma Tacogna made tiles that were used in interiors. It may even have been here on this site. I will do some research and see what I can find out.

Newmoddeller,
Yes, Gemma did tile interiors for some very famous people.
She made ceramic tile when she had her studio in Malaga Cove Plaza (Palos Verdes) California.
