I'm pretty new to papier mache, and I'd appreciate a few tips for the project I'm trying!
I'm going to make a model of a human head from clay (white raku), and then use that as a mould to make some papier mache copies. So I'd like the papier mache to be as thin a layer as possible so that the finished product doesn't change the shape of the head too much, and also very smooth. It would also be good if it was quite strong. I'm then going to either paint it or stick other pictures over the top.
So, what sort of adhesive/paper should I use? I was thinking maybe tissue paper, but I'm probably completely wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Have you ever made a plaster mold from a clay object? Is the clay head to be fired before you use it to make PM copies?
If you could make a plaster reverse mold of the face, then you could press PM into the plaster mold, and the PM faces would be exact duplicates of the clay face. Are you making masks?
Are you planning on painting the PM faces before applying your surface treatments?
You could use white PVA glue or wallpaper paste. The PVA would dry closer to clear if that is an issue. Wrapping tissue should be all right, not bathroom tissue (too weak for thin applications).
