Hi, my name is Tanja and I am really super new to paper mache. I need to build some very large India Market type pots (about 4 feet tall) for a Musical Theatre production of Aladdin. I could really use some advise on how to go about this. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest using beach balls as your base for these Large Vases. (I am assuming you need some large enough for someone to fit in) Might be hard to find now, but you need some of those super-duper big big beach balls you see on MTV as armatures.

I guess you have problems here because in Alladin, the men have to hide in them. Gee!
If you need this sort of strength, start with the large beach ball as Tammy suggests but cut pieces of corrugated card (as used to pack washing machines etc.) and tape them around. Use plenty of glue to join about three layers, binding them with masking tape; then laminate about 8 layers of alternating bond and kraft paper.
Hopefully that would be strong enough. I've never actually done it but I think it should work. Let us know please how you get on.

Thanks,
I don't need anyone to be inside them. They pop out from behind. They are boys about 10 years old. Can I make them with chicken wire frames? Tanja

Chicken wire frames could be make the shapes you want very easily but care needs to be taken if this is a project involving children. I have never been able to work with chickenwire without making my hands bleed.
