Thanks Tammy. I am hoping they survive too - I've got quite attached to them as you do with things that you make yourself. It was a wrench to leave them outside yesterday but I was very pleaed to see that they are all in fine fettle this morning!

I often sell at outdoor markets, but have been apprehensive about taking my papier mached items, due to extreme weather variations. (I don't want them to get sick and die! :cry: ) I look forward to seeing the results. Again, Thank you sooo much. I truely appreciate this site!

Your experiment is such a good idea, I had often wondered about doing the same thing but never got round to it.
Coincidentally, I put one of my sculptures (an elephant) outside in the garden yesterday to see how it fares. I had been about to throw it in the bin as I was a little fed up with seeing it knocking around the house and I have to make room for all the other papier mache sculptures I'm producing!
I then thought I may as well stick it in the garden for the remainder of the summer. It looks quite comical amongst the flowers.
So far we haven't had much rain so it is looking ok, the main problem is it keeps blowing over in the wind as it isn't very heavy.
I'll let you know how he deteriorates................. he is finished with acrylic paints and water based varnish.

I had to chuckle about your elephant Isabel....I have visions of papier mache animals and figures all over the place being relogated to the garden! At least I won't be the only one getting funny looks from my neighbours! 
I hope your elephant survives of course and look forward to hearing about him later on.

You are right there ChristianNinja! Do you or Rozani have anything outside at the moment, or maybe in the process of putting something outside?
In fact, if anyone is doing their own experiment with waterproofing at the moment (as Isabel is doing with her elephant), please take photos and keep notes of dates, conditions, location etc. We may be able to collate all the information at a later date.
