I want to fill a pot with paper pulp beads so they will hold up a large layered papier-mache sunflower.
I prefer to use recycled/reused materials instead of buying anything new.
Does anyone know of any material that I could add to the paper pulp to make it heavier? Would sawdust do? I haven't tried that in my pulp mixture before.
I thought of paper pulping over rocks, but there is no where nearby that I could can a large amount of stones for free.
Any ideas?!?

Papier maché is light, even in bulk. Sawdust will make some difference, but not a lot. Plaster would be heavier if mixed in.
What about making an inner base for the sunflower. Wrap the lower stem in clingfilm; put it at the angle you want in a small pot; press a not-too-wet mix of pm around it; remove the flower and allow to dry (this could take quite a long time.
When it is totally dry, put the flower back down the hole and then build your beads around and above it.
