Papier Mache hats?

i have already made one hat, and i am very happy with it, but it's not too sturdy. so i was wondering wht kind of structure would be most effective, wire, cardboard, or some sort of foam. which is what i used, i sculpted the form of the hat out of white styrofoam.
last thing! what kind of mache or pulp would be the best to use for structuring things such as brims and other parts of the hats, more delicate parts as well. thanks much!

Cardboard (for both) I would say. Wire would be too prickly and heavy. You can make lovely rims and additions out of cardboard.

Re: Papier Mache hats?

yes i use mostly cardboard and hot glue for the base it works great because you can see the almost see the shape of what is to come before you start with the paper and it is very strong when the hole thing dries ...but watch the amount of water going on do couple of light base layers let it dry then go to town .... the first couple of layer will help pick up the extra water that may weaken the cardboard

hope this helps
