I want to make a Darth Vader Helmet, and i think paper mache is the best way to go.
Any ideas on how to go about it?

Well, you could buy one with all those 50 dollars you've collected from new members (?!)
Five possible methods I can think of. ....
The first, which I used for the 'roman' helmet in my gallery was to make a template of my grandson's head with three layers of aluminium foil. It was delicate but held the shape enough to apply some layers of paperlayer. I built up with card to fashion the main structure before layering again.
The second would be to make a frame with chicken wire and layer or mache on that.
The third would be to use card, almost like a dressmaker. Fashion your cuts and joins to the shape you need, then layer or mache.
The fourth - if you have plenty of clay - fashion the shape and then layer over it.
The fifth - make up the shape in polytyrene and any other bits and pieces. Layer around it, cut free, rejoin and strengthen.
I bet someone will add another dozen ideas, but it all helps the discussion doesn't it.
How did you get on with the canoe, by the way.

Well, I started on it last night and have been adding layers. This was my first time using the flour and water paste, and it has worked quite well!
What I did is I stuffed a sock hat then put masking tape on it for the form. I have decided I am going to make a more Boba Fett-ish type helmet I've designed myself.

Yeah, it was me. Ive been watiing unitl the weather got a bit more reliable before I started into the canoe. However, my brother just bought a house with a big pole barn, so I may weasel him into letting me do it in there.

Well...I just pulled the hat and everything out. It fits great, but the problem is it doesnt go down far enough. My chin pokes out. SO I need to extend it....any ideas on how I should go abotu this?

I will avoid the obvious - "trim your chin!" ....
Just cut sections of cardboard to the shape you need and layer over both sides. This should join to the main mask quite easily. The card does not have to be very thick - cereal packet material is ideal for this sort of thing.
