Another potential cheap source of white glue

After I got done pawing through all the toy bins yesterday, looking for more plastic minions to add to the mountains of figures at my house, I picked up a couple of full bottles of Elmer's white glue from one of the local thrift stores for a mere twenty-five cents each (man, I can remember when you could get four or five bottles for a buck during the back to school sales, but those days are apparently gone forever--two for a buck is the best you can manage nowadays).  While thrift stores are hardly a reliable source for the stuff, I just thought I'd mention it, as I know many papier mache artists are always on the lookout for a good deal on glue.  Two bottles probably doesn't go too far for most of you, but, at the small scale I work, I can get several figures out of that quantity, so it's a good deal for me.

Yes, I've seen some there, and the yellow wood glue, also.  I pick them up if they don't look too thick.

Come on over, David!  I'll bet you could pick up some newspaper for cheap, too! 8-)... Better yet, take a cruise and maybe you could get a tan.

Sue, I've got a tan - from my garden in summer . . . .

I'd hardly think that was necessary.  Surely there must be thrift stores, or the equivalent, in Great Britain.

I buy my white glue by the big jug at the hardware store. Not as cheap as getting it from the second hand store but better than buying the little ones at the store for regular price. It also doesn't have to be Elmer's brand glue either as long as it
dries clear. I also use it for decoupage.

No, it doesn't have to be Elmer's, or any other brand for that matter (I use RoseArt and some other kinds in addition to Elmer's, and I've never noticed a difference in quality), I just mentioned the name because that's what they had.

It always bothers me that most retail/department stores jack the prices on glue WAY up after school starts (usually $1-2 for a single small bottle, which is ridiculous).

I think one big jug of white glue would probably last me a decade...
