I've tried this with just plain newspaper Papier mâché strips. I came by the effect by accident. I was making a small solid pot, not using any kind of mould as I very rarely do. The pot was slightly lop sided so I sanded it with ordinary sandpaper. The effect was stunning, like fossilised rock. I made a mental note to do some more experimenting with it.
Your link has prompted me to do just that. I hadn't seen it done with coloured paper like this. The machine would take all the hard work out of the shaping, though I dread to think of the dust this would create......a mask needed here methinks!
