A mould of my daughters face was produced in plaster of paris which was quite scary for her as she was only about 9 at the time. The mould was then lined with streched strips of paper kitchen towl soaked in pva/water mix using petroleum jelly as a release agent. This enabled the mask to fit her face perfectly when worn. The bulk of the mask was built freehand using pulp (newspaper/pva/water). During the drying process I left it in the oven of my Rayburn whilst otherwise occupied and managed to totally destroy the middle from mouth to forehead. Fortunately the mould enabled me to rebuild it without to much trouble. Oh the wonders of papier mache! The eye holes were filled with theatre lighting gel. The hair, eybrows & nasal hair were made from filling out of an ex cushion. The hat was from an old welsh costume and to attach it to the face I used the thigh part of a pair of old tights which gives the mask a tight fit.
