Cool little critter. Is there any significance to the stickman it's holding?

The critter's stickman is his toy and permanent companion in both the book and the movie "The Gruffalo's Child". The story is meant for children but it also fascinated me and my whole family - i.e. husband and grown-up son and daughter :-)

I wasn't aware that the Gruffalo was a published character, I had just assumed it was an original creation of yours; thanks for the info!
