Hollow paper mache figure

I want to create hollow paper mache figurines.  First I carve the figurine in clay, then I want to make a plastic mold around the clay figure. When I cut the plastic mold off I will have a reverse of the figurine. Then I will use pre made paper mache pulp that is mixed with water to cover the inside of mold. When it dries, I will have a hollow figurine.  My question is, does anyone know how to make the plastic mold that I will cover the original clay figure with?

Re: Hollow paper mache figure

Hi Robin,

you can use a special kind of latex that is used to make molds, but you can also make a figure out of playdo, or another kind of clay that doesn't dry, and cover that with pm. Let it dry, cut it open, remove the clay, close it up using pm, let dry again.

One material I have come across is Vinamould.  You could search on the name but one supplier of all sorts of moulding materials is http://www.wet-windy.co.uk/acatalog/Wet … s_457.html
If you are in UK, a supplier is Alec Tiranti.
