Hi,
I spoke to a very high profile paper mache artist years ago, who mentioned that her first attempts at the art were met with attacks of wevils and other bugs in her pieces. I recall termites were mentioned too. I remember her saying that using flour was a problem. She had to change her recepie dramatically.
Can anyone give me guidance as to how to avoid bug problems with paper mache?

Some people use slightly diluted wood glue or pva glue instead of standard paste. Wallpaper paste is also a good choice to avoid infestation problems. The point is to take out the thing that attracts the insects and that is the flour. Most people I have talked to about this subject say that the wood glue actually repels the insects.

Ack bugs! I can't even imagine how horrid that would be.
I agree with tammywilson. I think if you don't use flour and paste it shouldn't be such a problem. I use a mixture of wallpaper paste and pva glue and haven't had a problem with bugs yet.
