My daughters kindergarten class will be entering a float in our towns christmas parade. The theme is "One World-One Christmas". We have chosen to base the float around a large world globe, approx. 6 feet in diameter. I have been put in charge of figuring out how much of various products it will take to do this project. We have decided to use newspaper as the paper source and are considering glue and water mix as the medium to hold it together. I have not a clue  about how to fugure out how much of the glue we will need. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.

I should have mentioned how. We are planning on using a chcken wire frame. I am not sure exactly how we are going about doing that...someone else will be incharge of that part. We had planned on using newspaper, tearing and then laying on. As you can tell we have very little experience in this.

Have you considered using a super-big beachball for your armature? It is very difficult to get chicken wire in a perfect cylindrical shape.LOL

Another possible way, if you have sand or similar and sunshine.
Mark out a ring on the ground and fill with damp sand, modelling until you have a near perfect hemisphere. Lay thin plastic over it. Apply about ten layers of slightly damp bond (office) paper, smearing with paste (70% wallpaper, 30% PVA in a thick cream consistency) but keeping it as dry as possible. Leave to dry thoroughly.
Lift off and do the other half.
Join them (not easy) and apply a couple more layers. My guess is that this would be strong enough for the requirements.
I bet you're pleased you volunteered!!

The group has went with the chicken wire and it is less than perfect as far as roundness goes. I spent the whole day doing paper mache on it. Needless to say I am covered form head to toe with flour and water mix. I could be baked in the oven right now and come out a biscuit.
Thanks for the helpful hints.
