Hello everyone, hope the summer is treating everyone well.
It's almost time to hit the books again and the kids have asked for new boxes. They don't want the plastic storage boxes they used last year (which fell to pieces) for stashing their nicknacks, pencils, pens, rulers. They asked for something paper mache but cool. o.O Yeah um, so one wants his larger and the other wants dividers in hers. O.O *backs away from her increasingly crazy kids* Yes, sure, no problem. I can do dividers, lids, cool. Maybe.
I've never made a pm box with a lid that can be closed (needs to securely close so won't pop open). Anyone have suggestions or links, please?

Yikes. Strong, durable, trendy and easy. They don't want much do they? What about helping THEM to make it.
I would not be inclined to use hinges because fitting these and arranging fasteners etc is tricky, though someone else may have good ideas and experience in this.
What about using the flexibility of pm to create an interesting shape (the plan elevation) and then a lid which will simply sit over the whole thing, perhaps with ties to hold it in place.

The top and the bottom could be exactly the same size, with the bottom one having a thin cardboard liner around the inner edge to keep the top from shifting once it was closed.
You could make a fabric hinge (if you wanted a hinge, not really necessary) the entire length of the box.
Dividers could be made separate, bottom + dividers, a piece that would just sit in the bottom of the box. Probably easier than making it all one piece.
This pattern/instruction might be of interest. You could alter the size: http://www.ruthannzaroff.com/mirkwoodde … itcase.htm
Otherwise, maybe google "make boxes" and see what you get.

Great, thanks everyone! Son is eager to start but daughter is her usual "no way." She's autistic and has sensory issues so has never been into touching anything gooey. No prob, she says she'll "direct us from over there" (her safe area heh). What a gal
