As many of you know I have started on a 40 inch tall(at the back) paper mache horse!! I was origonally planning on painting it. But thought it would look to wrinkly and decided to cover it with fur!! So I will be Covering it in a dark golden suede and it will be a Palomino!!
Anyways here it was about 1/2 month ago:
(I havent been working on it constantly....the thing is so darn heavy)

I think it looks fantastic, you are doing a grand job. I am intrigued as to where you are going to put it when you have finished? Is it going to be outside? If so it is going to need a lot of yacht/marine varnish.

Looks fantastic. What inerds are there that makes it heavy?

Well the base is a sawhorse I think thats the main problem. And as for where Im putting it....I dont know:) It will probably wind up going downstairs because its about 5+ feet long.... Thanks for the comments!!

What an amazing horse! How did you make the surface so smooth?
This has completely inspired me!

Paper pony,
to get a suede effect have a look at flocking. Basically it short fibres (looks just like coloured dust) that are applied to a glued surface. Some just apply the flock by hand to a glued surface then there are small hand held machines that electrostatically charge the flock that is attracted to the glued surface.
The texture feels like velvet/suede.

It really is looking good!
Maybe if you fill out the chest and blend in the neck, it will balance it a bit.
I don't know where you live, but in California, there is a joke (sort of) about people who raise American Quarter Horses who deliberately buy homes on steep hills to build up the muscles in their horses without having to do much themselves.

Paper Pony,
Your horse looks great! For your "fur treatment on your horse you might want to investigate a wall treatment that comes in a spray can that gives a suede like surface. I have seen it used on those home decorating shows on TV. That might be easier than trying to glue on fake fur. I'm not sure what the cost is but fake fur isn't always cheap. As far as the big butt goes, I'm not sure how it happens but any time I work in large scale the butt always ends up too big. I wonder why that is, maybe a self-image problem

Im with the posters who are suggesting using the fake suede paint isntead of fur. I think gluing on fur would take away from the fact you have made this beautiful piece of PM art! There is also the choice of textured paint, that comes with sand in it. Not as great as the suede paint idea, but its another option. Great job, can't wait to see it when its finished!!

I agree it looks great especially the head and neck. The only problem may be the splayed legs that the sawhorse armature is giving it, maybe when the tail is added it may pull them in, but a bit of artistic licence is allowed anyway and it will be great finished I am sure. Can't wait to see it complete with suade or fur.
