Hello
I'm wondering if there are good choices to make for producing food safe pieces of papier mache. For example, is wallpaper paste still safe to use if it has a rodenicide in it? Will acryllic medium seal the piece enough to protect the interior from the food and wahing moisture and o protect the user from the newspaper chemicals/ adhesive chemicals? I don't plan to put things through a dishwasher, but will need to be able to hand wash them. Any help is appreciated!
Thanks,
Rachel
I think that the fungicide in wallpaper paste means that you shouldn't get it near foodstuffs. I also think that you can never seal a piece well enough to protect either a) it from the food or b) the food from it. The closest I would get to using papier mache items for food use would be to put wrapped sweets (candies) in it. I wouldn't wash anything - I'd just wipe it with a damp cloth.
