Non-Sticky finishes?

We've run into a wee problem during our adventures in paper mache. smile

We used an acrylic spray sealer (matte) on a project we PM'd. Problem is that if you hold the item it turns all sticky feeling and gets worse the longer you hold it.

Any suggestions on a sealer or finish that won't turn sticky to human hands?

Re: Non-Sticky finishes?

Was the project completely dried before it was sealed?

What kind of adhesive did you use?

I have heard of some PM masks getting soft from perspiration, but not just from holding it.  Did it harden if it was left to sit without being touched?

Re: Non-Sticky finishes?

Pretty sure it was dry. Figure it was a good 16 hours before we touched it after last coat of paint. We used flour and water for the adhesive.  I'm wondering if it was the matte finish, as maybe it has less sealant properties? *shrug*

I did go out and get a glossy version of krylon and it is no longer sticky to the touch. Maybe it was the brand? Krylon Matte Finish spray.

Re: Non-Sticky finishes?

Maybe it was a bad batch of paint.  I did have some spray paint act like that some years ago.  I think the paint got frozen during a cold spell, and I tried to use it afterwards.  Most paints do have warnings not to let them freeze.

Re: Non-Sticky finishes?

Its the matte finish spray paint. Ive tried to cover acryllic paint with that stuff before, not only was it not sticky, but it did a horrible job protecting the finish. I dont have a better product to suggest, but I have had the same experience.

sad
I've used a water based polyurathane varnish which has worked well.
